There are two different flavours of GVim Portable.

  • Full: This contains the the vim runtime environment and the gvim package as they are provided on www.vim.org

  • LightWeight: This version is much smaller but "doc", "spell", "vimtutor" and a few other things got ripped off.

Obviously the Launcher Application is included in both versions. Additionally the EXE-files got compressed with UPX. Details can be found in build_gvimportable.bat.

The first two digits of the release number stand for the vim release number. The third one is for the Launcher (this project). For example GVim_Portable_7.0.2 is the third launcher release (I start counting at "0") of vim-7.0 Additionally a release can have a patchlevel. These releases correct minor bugs and start counting at "1". An example is GVim_Portable_7.0.2-p3.

If you ask yourself what happend to vim patches and the corresponding numbers: I do not plan to release a new GVim Portable every new vim patch and therefore they are not that important for me. I will try to be up to date with the important/critical patches. If you are interested in the vim patch level, please have a look at the changelog section.
